Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays and 2013 will welcome the mythical Year of The Snake! And due to the fact that Thailand is home to the largest overseas Chinese community in the world - Chinese make up 14% of the Thai population - the celebrations are many. And with that the promise of a colourful and memorable experience is assured!
The history of this important holiday actually dates back centuries and is rich in both myth and tradition. People tend to spend without limit to buy presents, decoration and materials in the signature red colour to ensure future wealth, good fortune, happiness and longevity. It is also critical to clean one’s home thoroughly to sweep away any ill-fortune.
2013 is the year of the snake and according to the myth that has lived on for years; a snake in the house is a good omen and means food will be plentiful. The snake is also intuitive, introspective and refined which should mean we are in for a wonderful year.
